Why aluminium
Aluminium is the most recyclable packaging material in the world. We believe environment sustainability and scope 2 and 3 emissions will become increasingly important to businesses and consumers - its certainly important to us.
Smelting and reforming aluminium is estimated to use 5% of the energy compared with using the equivalent amount of virgin aluminium. Our business has been designed with sustainability and circularity at its heart. We will be a vocal advocate for improving New Zealand's recycling behaviour, and our intention is to actively enable New Zealand's ability to recycle on-shore.
The current landscape of single-serve beverage packaging in New Zealand is characterised by:
Glass 38.7%
Aluminium 31.9%
Plastic 22.9%
Liquid paperboard 6.9%
“How can we justify the continued production of plastic beverage containers when there is a sustainable, easily recyclable alternative in almost every form? Recorp envisions a future where single-use plastic beverage containers are eliminated from New Zealand shelves by 2030.”
Rob Fyfe
We see a future where single-use plastic bottles are eradicated by 2030.
Aluminium is the fastest-growing beverage packaging category globally owing to its lightweight nature and infinite recyclability. New Zealand is currently under-served in aluminium capability, and capacity - we are here to fulfil that need.
